Palmento Costanzo, Sicilia

The Estate

Palmento Costanzo was founded in 2011 when the current owner could buy about 7 hectares of old bush-trained vineyards (30-100 y.o.) on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in Contrada Santo Spirito, few hundreds meters from the village of Passopisciaro. There are around 48,000 vines of Nerello Mascalese (70%), Nerello Cappuccio (20%), Caricante 7%, Catarratto 2% and other local white grapes such as Minnella and Trebbiano.

Etna represent one of the 4-5 great places for vine growing in Italy. The task of the cautious winemaker is to enhance the aromatic character that arise from the interaction between place and grape. Moreover, on Etna grape varieties just play the role of ambassador of the terroir.

The People

Palmento Costanzo hires only young workers from the surrounding villages, because they want to be a resource for the territor.
