This is a relatively young winery; first vintage was 1997. Manni Nössing produces wonderful classic white wines on the eastern slopes of Eisack valley close to Brixen, since the first years of 2000. Before year 2000 he used to sell grapes to the Abbazia di Novacella. He owns about 5 hectares of Kerner, Veltliner, Riesling, Gewürtz-Traminer and Sylvaner just above the village of Brixen and 1 hectar in the breathtaking Villnöss valley at the feet of the Odle Dolomites at 1000 meters above sea level planted with Müller-Thurgau. The soils here are clayous with schists and dolomite debris, that gives thrilling saltiness and minerality. Kerner is a cross of Riesling and Schiava, while Müller-Thurgau is a cross of Riesling and Madeleine Royal (formerly was considered a cross of Riesling and Sylvaner)
Wine is the result of the interaction between place and grape variety; to enhance this interaction viticulture must help the vines to grow in balance without stress and winemaking has to be imprinted to the minimal intervention approach
Manni Nössing is a young, bold, willing and passionate vigneron, 100% devoted to his vineyard, with a clear and sharp vision of what he wants to achieve. He started working the family vineyards in 1997, beginning with a wonderful red wine, a blend of Zweigelt and Sant Laurent that made a lot of rumors at that time. Now he only grow white varietals as he believes grapes such as Kerner, Veltliner and Sylvaner are much more suited to express the beauty of this terroir.
Truly outstanding wines. Rich and luscious, yet elegant and vibrant, with juicy acidity and suitable "minerality" that lenghten the crisp after taste.
