Massimago, Veneto

The Estate

Founded in 1883 close to Mezzane di Sotto (loc. Giare) has been always supplying grapes to the neighboring producers. Since 2007 Camilla Rossi Chauvenet bottles her own crop under the brand Massimago. About 10 hectares; soils are mostly clayous with a strong dominance of reddish calcaire, locally known as rosso ammonitico.  Vineyards are trained both with the traditional pergola system and guyot. Beside Corvina and Molinara, Massimago grow 1200 vines of Garganega and 0.5 hectares of Mourvedre, Grenache and Syrah that will make a new wine from vintage 2013.

Philosophy

A good wine must express the interaction between place and grape varieties, and always link to the local heritage and tradition. The wines here have to deliver freshness, elegance and measure. To achieve this goal, acidity and minerality has to balance the natural alcoholic and softness endowment.
