Montecalvi, Toscana

The Estate

Montecalvi is a small winery in Greve in Chianti, 20 km south of Florence. The south-westerly facing estate covers 10 hectares of which 3,5 hectares are vineyards. There are four small vineyards (one of which has been planted in 1932 on small terraces) at an altitude of around 300m above sea level, on land derived mostly from sandstone.

The vigneron's mission is to unveil the unique character that arise from the interaction between place and grape variety

The People

The Bolli family bought the Montecalvi estate in 1988 and sold it to Jim Drake, a grower in Adelaide Hills, Australia, in 2017. Jim and Tim Manning, one of the most talented winemakers in Italy, have given fresh energy to this jewel and the new wines are just thrilling.
