This estate has been created in 1985, in Castelnuovo dell'Abate the southernmost area of Montalcino appellation. Only 1.80 hectares of vineyards, making La Pieve the smallest producer in Montalcino. The vineyards are trained with the classic cordone system which limits the production and allow a perfect and evenly ripening of the grapes. Vineyards face south, south-east at an altitude of about 450 meters on the typical galestro soil (a sort of rocky clay intermixed with sandstones)
A good wine is the combination of heritage, grapes and terroir. Robert wants his wines to express the aromatic character that arise from the interaction between grape and terroir, without loosing the “memory” of tradition.
Robert Baumann and his wife Bettina Winter bought this microscopic chateau in 1985 from Giuseppe Bianchini, the former owner of Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona.

Robert's wines combines power and elegance, freshness and depth; ultimately they are a perfect expression of the phenomenal terroir of Castelnuovo dell'Abate
